Position Overview

This role will oversee the engineering and maintenance team function for Mineral Separation Plant in terms of SQLCST.


Responsibilities:

Mining Maintenance

  • Provides leadership in line with Tronox values
  • Delivering best practice maintenance to the Mine Site  
  • Develops and maintains Maintenance business plan
  • Ensures maintenance KPI’s are measured, reviewed and improved to agreed targets.
  • Develops and implements maintenance budget and report cost performance relative to budget and forecasts.
  • Accurate cost forecasting
  • Manages the implementation of smaller projects
  • Facilitates OE activities and improvements in line with reliability strategy
  • Champions idea generation within team
  • Ensures plant modifications are adequately risk assessed through management of change
  • Ensures maintenance work management procedures are in line with safety values
  • Develops personnel
  • Ensures management and integrity of the computerized maintenance manage system (CMMS)

 

Projects, CI & Plant Optimisation

  • Drives improvement projects toward enhancing business operations.
  • Optimizes processes, investigates and conducts feasibility studies.
  • Conducts simulation projects, production forecasting, maintenance planning optimization and support.

 

Project Management

  • Manages projects with regard to processes, technology and equipment.
  • Evaluates and complete projects with minimum risk, within allocated timeframes and according to specified budgetary requirements.
  • Provides input and focus on projects and project teams.
  • Provides regular progress updates to stakeholders.


Project Execution

  • Creates structures for project execution, monitor and track progress.
  • Completes individual implementations timeously.
  • Communicates project status to applicable stakeholders.
  • Prioritizes initiative activities to optimize the application of resources and staff.
  • Manages team performance of operational initiatives and stakeholders with regard to project initiatives.
  • Manages and coordinate ad hoc and / or ongoing BI initiatives as required.
 

Effective Staff Supervision

  • An optimized team structure is manned by staff that are motivated, empowered and led by sound performance management and transformational leadership practices.
  • Promotes teamwork, provides support and manages performance by creating and maintaining individual development plans of subordinates.
  • Oversees all recruitment and HR related activities of reporting staff.
  • Performs fair and reasonable tasks related to the job and working environment, at the discretion of the Manager (direct superior).
 

Compliance

  • Ensures and maintains a healthy environment, safe operations and practices.
  • Complies with SHEC and technical requirements, in line with Plant availability targets. Implements SHEC programs and ensures adherence to all relevant statutory requirements with regard to MHSA and other applicable laws and charters.  (EE, BEEE, ESD, Social and Labour plan)
  • Monitors, identifies and responds to defects and / or sub-standard equipment performance and other improvement opportunities.
 

Customer and Client Relationship Management

  • Supports core business by ensuring appropriate stakeholder relationships toward enhancing the corporate profile.
  • Manages internal and external relations, including the interface with external providers or other functions responsible to ensure that the business needs are met and employees are satisfied.
  • Represents Tronox Namakwa Sands at applicable forums.
  • Provides relevant and specialised support to applicable stakeholders.
 

Qualifications

  • B Eng / B Tech in Mech / Electrical Engineering (Mandatory)
  • GCC MHS Act (Mandatory)
  • Minimum 8 years engineering and maintenance experience of mining equipment (Mandatory)
  • 3 - 5 years Management and leadership experience (Advantage)
