Position Overview
This temporary Buyer is responsible for purchasing materials and services from suppliers. The Buyer will assess the need of existing and new vendors and conduct maintenance of supplier details accordingly. Facilitation and management of sound purchase orders and vendor relationships are critical to enable the operation to produce safe, quality, low cost sustainable tons and delivery on customers’ expectations. 

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Execute, expedite and maintain purchase orders
  • Ensure accurate quality and quantity of products.
  • Continuous improvement in terms of cost-effectiveness & productivity.
  • Identify suppliers and negotiate prices savings.
  • Negotiate delivery and lead times. 
  • Responsible for transport arrangements toward ensuring smooth operations. 
  • Source quotations and tenders from suppliers. 
  • Draft and manage small contracts in co-operation with the Contract Specialist.  
  • Create and maintain RFQ's.
  • Manage Breakdown orders.
  • Participate in production and maintenance forecasting process. 
  • Challenge end-user's choice of suppliers. 
  • Manage internal and external relations, including the interface with external providers or other functions responsible to ensure that business needs are met. 
  • Conduct financial analysis and commercial assessments of supplier abilities. 
  • Manage supplier relations; collaborate and communicate with suppliers.
  • Conduct site meetings with supplier.
  • Participate in the evaluation new and/or alternate products and submit recommendations.
  • Ensures that supplier stakeholders comply with relevant regulatory requirements.
  • Execute standardized procurement processes within agreed Service Level Agreements and governance guidelines.
  • Register, capture, update, control and maintain data and other related systems required to enhance procurement operations.
  • Assist with SAP master data.
  • Ensure availability of information, conduct required analysis and research to ensure input when required and to ensure accuracy of information.

Qualifications

  • College bachelor’s degree in Procurement or Business preferable and three years’ relevant experience in a chemical or industrial environment
  • Experience procuring chemicals, energy/utilities, packaging, maintenance & environmental services, capital materials and logistics is preferred
  • SAP MM Modules (Proficient in the creation and maintenance of SAP contracts and Purchase Orders / Reporting on vendors and materials) required
  • Microsoft Office, above average Word, Excel and Power Point skills preferred
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Problem solving and decision-making capability
  • Attention to detail
