Position Overview
This position is responsible for advancement of the Hamilton Advanced Process Control (APC) initiative, process improvements, project development, and assisting operations in meeting safety, environmental, quality and productivity goals. Ensures the operation of the plant in an environmentally responsible manner in compliance with all Safety, Health and Environmental Policy.
Responsibilities
- Support plant personnel and process improvement efforts to meet safety, quality, efficiency, and production goals.
- Investigate and research opportunities for advanced automation solutions.
- Serve as the primary APC project initiative leader, overseeing projects from the design phase to full handover to production.
- Expand the usage of Advanced Process Control (APC) and Model Predictive Control (MPC) to all major unit operations.
- Exhibit excellent communication skills and engage stakeholders when introducing change.
- Provide scope and develop foundational controls work necessary for APC implementation.
- Create optimizers that extend the capabilities of existing APC controls by expanding their reach to communicate with all major production units.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for reporting APC results from all initiative leaders, leading stakeholder review meetings, and providing cost savings and benefits to the Global APC team.
- Support and participate in initiatives through the APC/Data Science Center of Excellence team.
- Master and stay up-to-date with the latest developments in APC, particularly those from Honeywell and their Profit Suite line.
- Use creative problem-solving to improve safety, quality, cost, and production.
- Gather, interpret, and analyze data, and draw conclusions based on the data.
- Make data-driven decisions and demonstrate the ability to make appropriate assumptions when unknowns exist.
- Exercise sound technical judgment in resolving problems and seek direction from a supervisor when necessary.
- Complete software change proposals for new or modified processes. Develop optimized control strategies for safe and cost-effective operation. Design control graphics and alarm strategies that are clear and effective for end users.
- Reduce process variability through control loop optimization or other process improvements. Use Plant Triage/Expertune to routinely monitor plant controller health in collaboration with the production engineering group.
- Demonstrate clear written and oral communication skills with peers, management, and customers.
- Participate in Process Hazard Analysis as needed.
- Manage all projects in a safe and environmentally responsible manner.
- Advise and assist plant support and R&D personnel as needed.
- Promote a “work-safe” attitude and environment where safety is the prerequisite for all activities
- Consistently applies and uses Outward Mindset Principles and Tools
Qualifications
- This position requires a degree in Chemical Engineering, Computer Science, or Electrical Engineering.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in Industrial Controls and Automation as well as thorough knowledge of plant operations, equipment, and processes is preferred.
- The ability to present ideas, along with strong verbal and written communication skills, and good human relations skills, are required.
- Advanced skills in Python for Machine Learning and Data Science, MATLAB, Plant Triage/Expertune Loop Tuning, SEEQ, and Foxboro DCS are preferred.
- Basic-level or greater training with Honeywell Profit Suite is also preferred.
- A working knowledge of PID, Advanced Regulatory Control, and process instrumentation is required.
- Salary will be commensurate with relevant experience and depth of requisite skills.
- Ability to present ideas, good verbal and written communication skills, and good human relations skills are required.
