Position Overview

This position is responsible for planning, directing and monitoring the safety and health programs to achieve an accident-free workplace.  Ensure compliance with corporate safety and health policies, as well as government agency (i.e., OSHA) regulations.  Act as the company’s representative when dealing with government agencies and local community groups.  Also ensures the operation of the plant in an environmentally responsible manner & in compliance with the Environmental Policy.

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Conduct safety audits to ensure compliance with safety and health regulations and action plans.
  • Communicate safety and health policies and programs to all employees through safety meetings, training, bulletins and personal contact.
  • Maintain, monitor and provide guidance for obtaining certification or recertification under the OSHA “STAR” Site program.
  • Provide technical safety engineering support to eliminate potential hazards to personnel and property.
  • Conduct investigations and analysis of accidents, occupational illnesses and serious incidents to recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Perform statistical analysis of injury and illness trends in order to continuously improve safety and loss prevention programs.
  • Develop and implement facility safety and health action plans.
  • Assist leadership to resolve health issues by identifying risks and implementing policy to reduce risk through implementation of industrial hygiene practices.
  • Oversee the use of radioactive materials thought the management of the radioactive license.
  • Assist project managers and line management in interpreting applicable regulations an implementing effective safety program.
  • Assist in loss prevention planning and development of safe operating requirements of new equipment or processes.
  • Measure and evaluates the effectiveness of accident and loss control programs.
  • Stay abreast of new developments, regulations, and legislation applicable to the safety and health fields.

Qualifications

This position requires a college degree in Industrial Safety or Engineering. A minimum of 5 years industrial safety experience preferred, preferably in the Chemical Industry.  Certified Safety Professional or Registered Professional Engineer preferred.  Specialized knowledge of OSHA regulations and continuous process manufacturing operations is required.
