Description

The successful candidate will work in the laboratory under broad supervision. will perform varied and fairly complex tasks.  As a part of product development team, the incumbent may be required to modify surface of pigment particles in developing novel titanium dioxide products with improved properties.  The incumbent may develop polymer synthetic procedures, coating procedures and techniques and involve in preparation of samples from bench to pilot plant scale.  The incumbent should have good working knowledge of a lab environment   and able to perform various tasks by following safety procedures /guidelines.  He/she will perform various standard and non-standard laboratory tests in various end applications to evaluate the performance properties of Tronox TiO2 and competitive products. He/she will be involved in preparing TiO2 samples and panels for customers as well as providing assistance in developing/updating test formulas and procedures. Other non-laboratory tasks maybe assigned to support the Sales and Marketing. Ability to multi-task is critical as the priority on projects can change quickly.

Duties and Responsibilities but are not limited to:

  • Following safety procedures/guidelines while performing task
  • Sample preparation and analysis of raw materials, intermediate and finished products, waste and by-products associated with the manufacturing of titanium dioxide pigments.
  • Operate laboratory equipment for physical and chemical analysis, and pilot plant equipment that simulate manufacturing process.
  • If necessary, technical specialist should able to travel to production plants for carrying out plant trials.
  • Testing of TiO2 in various applications to assess the performance of Tronox TiO2 against competition or a given standard.
  • Preparation and testing of various paints & inks
  • Operation and maintenance of laboratory equipment
  • Preparing TiO2 samples or panels for customers
  • Responsible for managing lab materials and supplies
  • Maintaining complete and accurate record of his/her laboratory project & data
  • Reporting of data in acceptable format and occasionally writing a report
  • Responsible for supporting plant trials as needed
  • Accountable for lab safety and cleanliness
  • Responsible for managing shipping of materials and samples to customers
  • Operate equipment at a laboratory and pilot-plant scale, with supervision. Examples include solid/solid separations, solid/liquid separations, drying, filtration, milling, and mixing
  • Operate a high temperature furnace for processing ceramic samples
  • Install routine instrumentation, i.e. thermocouples, flow meters, pressure gauges, transducers

Qualifications

This position requires a general education acquired through obtaining a high school diploma including completion of a high school level general chemistry lecture course, general chemistry laboratory and algebra II course or a BS degree in physical/natural sciences. The incumbent should have good working knowledge of a lab environment and able to perform various tasks by following safety procedures /guidelines. He /she should be able to pay attention to finer details during experimentation and needs a good discipline approach and planning capabilities.

Incumbent must have a working knowledge of basic spreadsheet and word processing software applications. The position also requires the ability to communicate effectively, work in a team environment and have flexibility as to assigned duties.
