Summary

The successful candidate will work in the laboratory under broad supervision. They will perform varied and fairly complex tasks. As a part of the analytical team, the candidate will be responsible for performing a series of standard and non-standard tests evaluating final products, raw materials, and waste products. The candidate may develop instrumentation methodology, wet chemistry procedures, and statistical protocols. The candidate should be safety focused with a good working knowledge of a laboratory environment. They should be able to perform a wide variety of tasks by following standard operating procedures and safety guidelines. The candidate will be involved in preparing samples and reports for internal and external customers. The ability to multi-task and to self motivate are key attributes.

 

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Following safety procedures/guidelines while performing tasks.
  • Sample analysis of raw materials, intermediate and finished products, waste and by-products associated with the manufacturing of Tronox products.
  • Operate laboratory equipment for physical and chemical analysis.
  • Testing of TiO2 in various applications to assess the performance of Tronox TiO2 against a standard.
  • Operation and maintenance of laboratory equipment.
  • Responsible for managing laboratory materials and supplies.
  • Maintaining complete and accurate records of laboratory projects & data.
  • Reporting of data in acceptable format and occasionally writing reports.
  • Responsible for supporting plant trials as needed.
  • Accountable for lab safety and cleanliness.
  • Responsible for managing shipping of materials and samples to customers.

Critical Attributes

  • Working knowledge of basic spreadsheet and word processing software.
  • Fundamental understanding of statistics and chemistry.
  • Good working knowledge of a laboratory environment and able to perform basic chemistry laboratory operations (for example, preparation of reagents, weighing, titrations, filtration).
  • Works well in a collaborative, team environment.
  • The successful candidate will possess good observation and communication skills.
  • Ability to solve problems by examining and evaluating data and selecting corrective steps.

Qualifications

This position requires a general education acquired through obtaining a high school diploma including completion of a high school level general chemistry lecture, general chemistry laboratory, and algebra II courses or a BS degree in physical/natural sciences. The incumbent should have good working knowledge of a lab environment and be able to perform various tasks by following safety procedures/guidelines. They should be detail oriented with the ability to plan and execute experiments.

The candidate must have a working knowledge of basic spreadsheet and word processing software applications. The position also requires the ability to communicate effectively, work in a team environment and have flexibility as to assigned duties.
