Duties and Responsibilities

Tronox is seeking a candidate to fill a one-year postdoctoral position (extendable to a second year or a permanent position) to champion technical & time sensitive analytical projects and lead them to a successful implementation. The candidate will join a fast-paced, customer focused analytical group supporting R&D, Manufacturing, Quality Control, and Applications testing.  The candidate is expected to have broad knowledge of various analytical techniques and expertise in method development and analysis of organic and polymeric compounds.  Preferred applicants will be successful communicators and continually motivated to expand their knowledge base.

The position will report directly to the Analytical Manager and will work closely with R&D, Applications, and Technical Services.

 Specific duties for the position include:

  • Postdoc scientist in the field of analytical or organic chemistry.
  • Demonstrated experience in techniques for the identification and quantification of organic and polymeric compounds on surfaces and in solution.
  • Relevant techniques include
  • TGA-GC/MS
  • DSC
  • HPLC & IC
  • MS
  • GPC
  • FTIR
  • XPS
  • UV-Vis
  • 1H & 13C NMR
  • Ability to drive high level technical research and effectively communicate findings to a variety of global stakeholders.
  • Strong problem solving and statistical analysis skills.
  • Excels in multi-tasking, performing a wide variety of non-routine/routine analysis in a fast-paced environment.
  • Safety conscious

Minimum Education

  • PhD in Analytical or Organic chemistry

 

Preferred Qualifications

 

The most desirable candidate will have a PhD with research experience in analytical, organic, or a related field with an interest in solving real industrial issues. The candidate must be safety-inclined and be able to work autonomously. The candidate will be able to drive method development projects and implement effective knowledge transfers and trainings to local and global laboratory staff. The candidate shows a willingness to approach difficult problems from multiple creative angles with an added interest in learning and applying the Design of Experiments approach. Along with a strong technical background, the candidate will exhibit the following soft skills for the greatest success: Strong written and verbal communication skills, excellent record keeping and labeling skills, a reliable team player capable of taking and following the lead, strong work ethic with a willingness to be helpful.
