Description

The Summer Intern will work in a laboratory, under broad supervision, and will perform varied and fairly complex tasks.  The incumbent may be required to develop analytical procedures and techniques.  While in house training of laboratory duties is available, previous experience in physical and chemical testing laboratories is desirable.  The incumbent will work in research and development group.

Typical Job Accountabilities:

· Perform laboratory and pilot plant scale sample treatments associated with the manufacturing of titanium dioxide. 
· Analyze raw materials, intermediate and finished products, and waste and by-products
· Operate laboratory equipment for physical and chemical analysis and pilot plant equipment that simulate manufacturing processes.
· Collect data from test work, organize within spreadsheet, and write report on results.
· Complete documentation of laboratory work in lab notebook

The Requirements:

This position requires a general education acquired through obtaining a high school diploma including completion of a high school level general chemistry lecture course and general chemistry laboratory course. College courses in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science or related field(s) or previous experience in a chemical synthesis lab is highly desirable.

Incumbent must possess excellent interpersonal and analytical skills and have a working knowledge of basic spreadsheet and work processing software applications.  The position also requires the ability to communicate effectively, work in a team environment and have flexibility as to assigned duties.
