About the Role

The Principal Data Governance is responsible for establishing, implementing, and continuously improving Tronox's enterprise-wide data governance framework and processes. This role ensures that data is managed as a strategic business asset, enabling trusted decision-making, regulatory compliance, operational excellence, digital transformation, AI adoption, and business value realization.

The role provides leadership across business and technology teams to define data ownership, accountability, quality standards, policies, controls, and governance processes. Working closely with business functions, AI, SAP teams, analytics stakeholders, cybersecurity, legal, and executive leadership, the Principal Data Governance drives a culture of data accountability across the enterprise.

The role will be critical to:

  • Develop and execute the enterprise Data Governance Strategy and Roadmap, ensuring alignment with Tronox business objectives, SAP transformation programs, digital initiatives, AI strategy, regulatory requirements, and the target-state enterprise architecture.

  • Establish and maintain enterprise-wide data governance frameworks, including policies, standards, processes, decision rights, operating models and governance forums that support effective management of data as a strategic business asset.

  • Provide ongoing governance oversight of enterprise data assets, ensuring critical business processes source, manage and consume data from authorized systems of record while promoting consistency, integrity and trust across the organization.

  • Lead the Data Governance domain within the digital demand intake and project governance processes, ensuring new initiatives align with enterprise data principles, architecture standards, ownership models and governance requirements.

  • Drive business ownership and accountability for data, working with business leaders to define, implement and continuously improve Data Owner, Data Steward and Data Custodian responsibilities, integrated with the enterprise Decision Authority Matrix.

  • Facilitate resolution of cross-functional data challenges and risks, coordinating stakeholders across business and technology functions to address data-related issues, remove barriers, and improve governance maturity and stewardship outcomes.

  • Define and implement enterprise data quality management practices, including data quality standards, KPIs, monitoring frameworks, remediation processes and executive reporting to improve the reliability and fitness-for-purpose of critical business data.

  • Lead metadata, data catalogue and business glossary initiatives, ensuring users can discover, understand, trust and effectively utilize enterprise data assets through robust metadata standards, lineage visibility and data catalogue adoption.

  • Establish governance controls for sensitive, confidential and regulated information, partnering with Legal, Internal Audit, Cybersecurity, Privacy and Risk teams to support compliance obligations, audit readiness and effective information risk management.

  • Provide strategic leadership for Master Data Governance (MDG) by defining the enterprise master data roadmap, governing key master data domains, and leading the transition of MDG capabilities from transformation projects into sustainable business-as-usual operations.

About You

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Data Management, Business Information Systems or a related discipline, with postgraduate qualifications highly regarded.

  • Proven experience leading enterprise Data Governance programmes within large, complex organizations, including the development of governance frameworks, operating models, policies, standards and roadmaps.

  • Strong understanding of data ownership, stewardship and accountability models, with demonstrated ability to establish clear decision rights and drive business ownership across multiple functions and geographies.

  • Extensive experience in data quality management, including the design of quality frameworks, KPI development, root cause analysis, remediation processes and executive-level reporting.

  • Deep knowledge of metadata management, business glossaries, data catalogues and data lineage, with experience implementing and driving adoption of modern governance platforms.

  • Working knowledge of enterprise data platforms and transformation initiatives, particularly SAP S/4HANA, Databricks, analytics platforms, cloud data environments, AI solutions and digital transformation programmes.

  • Strong stakeholder engagement, facilitation and influencing skills, with the ability to work effectively with executive leadership, business functions, technology teams, cybersecurity, audit, legal and risk stakeholders to drive governance outcomes.

  • Relevant industry certifications are highly desirable, such as DCAM (Data Management Capability Assessment Model), CDMP (Certified Data Management Professional), DAMA, SAP MDG, TOGAF, COBIT, CISA, CGEIT, or equivalent data governance, enterprise architecture or information management certifications.
