Position Overview

  • The planning of maintenance work / servicing of equipment / machinery and facilities according to specifications.
  • The objective of this role is to improve work force productivity and work quality by eliminating in advance potential delays and obstacles through proper planning and coordination of labor, parts and machine time. This role is responsible for the planning of maintenance work relating to statutory and routine planned maintenance orders.  This role by its nature will closely liaise with the Scheduler, Maintenance Supervisor, Maintainers and Coordinator.


Primary Responsibilities

  • Upload maintenance plans depicting preventive maintenance procedures to address equipment requirements (inspections, service procedures, intervals, review and follow-up of work done) into SAP system and create work orders for planned maintenance work.
  • Receive all work notifications from the requesting departments of the area of responsibility, except for emergency work.  Prioritizes work requests in agreement with Coordinator.
  • Create work packages for a work order or grouped work orders and issues to Scheduler for scheduling.
  • Review and screen each work order to ensure proper completion:
    • Ensure work scope is clearly described.
    • Check if the priority and requested completion date are realistic and provide practical lead-time.
    • Clarify the details with the originating department as appropriate.
    • Ensure safety needs are given a top priority in work planning.
    • Allocate time, resources, services, tools, equipment and parts to a work order.
    • Verify the availability of parts, materials and special tools required for execution prior to submission for scheduling.
    • Obtain blueprints, drawings, instructional manuals and special procedures, as needed, from files or other sources to clarify the intent of the work order.
  • Estimate costs, perform field checks, follow-up and review with Maintenance Supervisor and Maintainers with respect to planning.
  • Interface with local procurement group and interact with warehouse personnel - raise purchase requisitions for equipment / services, verify materials normally on site availability.
  • Inspect completed work orders to ensure adequate detail is captured.
  • Review with Maintenance Supervisor the actual versus estimated labor and material used for completed jobs to improve estimation accuracy and work methods.
  • Monitor and report overdue maintenance and inspection work and reasons preventing planning / execution of the work.
  • Must be prepared to work overtime and Engineering Official standby Must be prepared to work as planner in other Engineering Maintenance departments


Qualifications & Experience

  • A recognized Trade test certificate with an N2 Technical certificate with mathematics, science, applicable trade theory and respective trade related 4th subject i.e. Engineering/Plater & Structural drawings for non-electric trades and Electronics for Electric trades.
  • Valid Code 8 (B) driver’s license


Knowledge & Skills

  • 3 to 5 Years relevant experience in the maintenance / engineering environment
  • Computer literate in MS Office and relevant experience in SAP PM
  • MS Project will be an advantage
  • Personal attributes required:  Structured worker and able to function, prioritize and deliver according to specifications, self-motivated, ability to perform individually and also as part of a team. Strong analytical skills, good communication skills, good people relations skills, a sense of loyalty and responsibility.
