Position Overview

This position will provide support to the Electrical, Instrumentation & Control (EI&C) team and will be responsible for higher level fault finding on E&I equipment, software & plant improvement & capital project support. Development, executing new business improvement ideas and contributing to improvement/problem solving. The ability to function as an effective team member is essential.


Primary Responsibilities

  • The incumbent will be required to do standby and work overtime
  • First line instrument and electrical technician support
  • Execution of the Tronox Routine Work Management Process
  • High level faultfinding
  • Knowledge of feed systems, weightometers and densitometers
  • In-depth experience on flowmeters, pressure and level transmitters.
  • Siemens Simocode motor starters & VSD drives installation, commissioning, faultfinding &  programming experience together with program backup management.
  • LV Electrical reticulation & distribution system including SANS10142-1 compliance support.
  • Experience in MV environment will be added advantage (MV reticulation & breakers, transformers, minisub ring-feeder systems, protection relays & systems).
  • Plant Maintenance improvement projects & capital project support. (EI&C)
  • Plant E&I earthing maintenance, integrity & compliance support
  • Hazardous areas compliance support
  • E&I Inventory spares management support
  • Inter departmental team engagement and E&I coaching/knowledge sharing.


Qualifications & Experience

  • National Diploma Electrical Engineering (T3 or S4) or similar level E&I qualification (NQF level 6)
  • 3-5 years operational experience in maintenance within a heavy industry environment.
  • Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC’s) and SCADA.
  • Valid code 08 driver’s license.
  • A recognized Instrumentation or Electrical trade test with an Installation Electrician certification will be an added advantage.
  • Certification for Medium or High Voltage switching will be an added advantage.


Key Competencies

  • Compliance: Ensure and maintain a healthy environment, safe operations and practices. Comply with SHE and technical requirements, in line with Plant / Asset availability targets. Implement SHE programs and ensure adherence to OHSact. Monitor, identify and respond to defects and / or sub-standard equipment performance and other improvement opportunities.
  • Continuous Improvement: Initiate continuous improvement initiatives leading to cost saving opportunities whilst keeping abreast of new developments and technology within the specialist field. Conduct research work in order to initiate process changes. Liaise with other sections; manage small projects and technology to enhance operations.
  • Services Efficiency:  Assume responsibility for supporting production departments by adhering to production- and services maintenance schedules. Attend to schedule breaking activities to maintaining set production targets. Ensure effective water and energy management, the optimal use of physical assets and available resources (both people and equipment).


Knowledge and Skills

  • A working knowledge of the OHSact, ISO standards and the principles of Continuous Improvement.
  • Working knowledge of Schenk weighing systems, Process Auto, Weightometers and Gas Analysers.
  • Working knowledge, Siemens Simocodes motor starters (MCC’s), switchgear, VSD’s & other auxiliary electrical equipment
  • E&I Drawing: Electrical reticulation, drive schematics, Loop drawing, AJB’s, DJB’s, Field Marshalling, JB’s, etc.
  • Sound knowledge of SAP PM.
  • Good communication skills.
  • The successful candidate should have a sound knowledge of and experience in all aspects of field instrumentation and electrical medium voltage switching.
  • Commissioning and fault finding would be further prerequisites.
  • Project & Contractor Management, Commissioning and fault finding would be further prerequisites
