Process Improvement Engineer

Position Overview

This position is earmarked for process improvement functions. The incumbent is responsible to identify performance gaps and opportunity for improvement in the metallurgical operation, initiate improvement projects, and develop the project through the project life cycle.

 

Primary Responsibilities

 

This role is accountable for:

Process Efficiency

  • Conduct work in accordance with set strategies, plans and production targets.
  • Ensure the optimal use of available resources, both people and equipment.
  • Assume responsibility for Equipment selection, Metallurgical process design, Project Life cycles and associated financial metrics within the functional area.
  • Complete, process and update all maintenance records and related documentation.
  • Oversee the technical development and coaching of PIT's, Engineers- and Technicians-in-Training.

 

Safe and Healthy Work environment

  • Ensure and maintain a healthy environment, safe operations, and practices.
  • Comply with SHEC- and technical requirements, in line with Plant / Mine availability targets.
  • Monitor, identify and respond to defects and / or sub-standard equipment performance and other improvement opportunities.

 

Continuous Improvement

  • Initiate continuous improvement initiatives leading to cost saving opportunities whilst keeping abreast of new developments within the specialist field.
  • Conduct research work to initiate process changes.
  • Function as Business Improvement process champion by consulting with other development sections
  • Conduct desktop and pre-feasibility studies toward improving process performance.

 

Customer and Client Relationship Management

  • Consult with internal and external customers, relevant statutory bodies to ensure sound business relationship management toward meeting client needs.
  • Ensure Tronox's image is maintained and promoted (internally and externally).
  • Provide a professional / specialist advisory support service regarding production / product quality across various levels within the organization.

 

Project Management

  • Evaluate and complete projects with minimum risk, within allocated timeframes and according to specified budgetary requirements.
  • Manage projects regarding processes, technology, and equipment.

 

Qualifications & Experience

  • B Eng. Metallurgical- or Chemical Engineering, NQF Level 7 (Mandatory)
  • B Eng. Hons NQF Level 8 (Recommended)
  • Driver’s License (Mandatory)
  • 6 - 8 years’ Metallurgical experience / Plant exposure to metallurgical processes/ Operating within a Heavy Industry environment (Mandatory)
  • Computer Literacy (Mandatory)
