Position Overview

This position is responsible for developing, implementing, and assisting with maintaining control systems at the Hamilton plant. Ensure integrity of the plant control systems (DCS & PLCs) including infrastructure, backups, user access & security, data availability and system documentation. Support plant operations and maintenance by implementing innovative control strategies and processes.

Roles and Responsibilities
 

  • Develop & install process control applications (DCS & PLCs) in all areas of the Hamilton facility
  • Ensure new process control installations are per standard.
  • Development of the Simulation, Testing, and Training for the Control Systems.
  • Develop and install new controls for automation.
  • Develop, install, and maintain applications of third-party software to the control systems such as:
    • Foxray/System Auditor
    • Automize Report Writer
  • Develop and maintain a 5-yr/10-yr rolling plan for hardware/software required for functionality of the plant control systems in efforts to prevent obsolesce.
  • Develop and implement plant standards for process controls.
  • Participate in the design, planning, construction, supervision, and commissioning of approved plant upgrades.
  • Responsible for managing support contracts for the DCS & PLC systems for Hardware and Software upgrades.
  • Manage MEP (Modular Exchange Program) for warranty covered hardware in the facility.
  • Responsible for Alarm Management – assist Process Engineers with developing mechanisms to reduce nuisance alarms; reporting of Alarm KPIs
  • Understand and program using standard control blocks, ladder logic and high-level batch language sequence code.
  • Support the development of Advanced Process Control (APC) through combined local and global initiatives.
  • Participate and support Center of Excellence (CoE) teams for Process Controls if asked.
  • Responsible for developing standards and ensuring they are followed for graphic designs, tag configuration, historization, alarming, and communication between control systems.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of Safety Instrumented functions to mitigate risks identified in HAZOP/LOPA studies as needed.
  • Develop, install, and maintain applications of third-party software to the control systems such as:
    • Excel VBA Reporting
    • AIM*AT Historian
    • OSI PI Historian
    • ExperTune
  • Consistently applies and uses Outward Mindset Principles and Tools

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in relevant Engineering field or Computer Science related discipline required
  • Experience with DCS and Allen Bradley PLC or equivalent hardware systems.
  • Experience working in industrial controls and continuous process.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and able to perform in a work environment that is highly collaborated and team oriented.
  • Programming experience with applications such as VBA/VB, C++, Sequential Logic, Ladder Logic, etc.
  • Experiences with the following is a plus:
  • Alarm Management
  • Triconex Safety PLC System
  • Integrating and Networking PC’s and PLC’s (TCP/IP, Ethernet)
  • Fieldbus Communication Networks (DeviceNet, Profibus, Modbus, Ethernet, etc
  • Exceptional human relations skills are required
