Business Unit & Section: Namakwa Sands - Maintenance
Primary Location: Smelter Operations (Saldanha)
Position Summary
This position will provide support to the Electrical, Instrumentation & Control (EI&C) team and will be responsible for higher level fault finding on Electrical &I equipment (MV & LV), Instrumentation, software & plant improvement & capital project support. Development, executing new business improvement ideas and contributing to improvement/problem solving. The ability to function as an effective team member is essential.
Qualification & Experience
- National Diploma T3 or S4 qualification – Engineering: Electrical (Heavy Current/Power Engineering/Power Electronics)
- 5-8 years Operational experience in maintenance & repair, within a heavy industry (Smelter/Mining/Power Utility) environment
- Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC’s, DCS) and SCADA systems
Knowledge & Skills
- A working knowledge of the OHSact, ISO standards and the principles of Continuous Improvement
- Working knowledge, of motor control MCC’s), switchgear (MV & LV), motor starters (soft starters, Siemens Semicodes, etc.), VSD’s (VFD’s) & other auxiliary electrical equipment
- Knowledge and experience working on MV switchgear (ABB, etc.) + protection relay schemes & relays [ABB Relion Range (REF/RET/REM/REG) and associated software]PCM600, etc)]
- Experience on performing primary and secondary injection, utilizing a range of associated injection test sets, pertaining to transformers, CT’s & VT’s, & other.
- Knowledge and understanding of generators/alternators, automatic voltage regulators (AVR’s), synchronizers.
- Knowledge and experience on metering and measuring equipment relating to power and energy measurements.
- Experience working on cranes and conveyors
- Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC’s, DCS) and SCADA systems
- Working knowledge of Schenk weighing systems, Process Auto and Weightometers, CO Gas Analyzers
- E&I Drawing: Electrical reticulation, drive schematics, Loop drawing, AJB’s, DJB’s, Field Marshalling JB’s, etc.
- Sound knowledge of SAP PM
- Good communication skills
- Valid code 08 driver’s license
- The successful candidate should have a sound knowledge of and experience in all aspects of field instrumentation & electrical equipment.
- Project & Contractor Management, Commissioning and fault finding would be further prerequisites
- Experience in Hazardous Area Classification, Ex equipment & compliance
Job Responsibilities
- The incumbent will be required to do standby and work overtime
- The incumbent will be required to work at heights and in confined spaces
- First line E&I technician support
- Execution of RWM process specifically on design-out and business improvement tactic.
- High level fault-finding
- Knowledge of feed systems, weightometers and densitometers
- Experience on flowmeters, pressure and level transmitters, control valves incl. actuators, solenoid & positioners control. Industrial Instrumentation
- Siemens Simocode motor starters & VSD drives installation, commissioning, fault-finding & programming experience & program backup management
- LV Electrical reticulation & distribution system SANS10142-1 compliance support
- Experience in MV environment (MV reticulation & breakers, transformers, minisub ring-feeder systems, protection relays & systems, generators, AVR’s and synchronizers) SANS10142-2
- Plant Maintenance improvement projects & capital project support. (EI&C)
- Plant E&I earthing maintenance, integrity & compliance support
- Hazardous areas compliance support
- E&I Inventory spares management support
- Inter departmental team engagement and E&I coaching/knowledge sharing
Competencies
- Compliance: Ensure and maintain a healthy environment, safe operations and practices. Comply with SHEC- and technical requirements, in line with Plant / Asset availability targets. Implement SHE programs and ensure adherence to OHSact. Monitor, identify and respond to defects and / or sub-standard equipment performance and other improvement opportunities.
- Continuous Improvement: Initiate continuous improvement initiatives leading to cost saving opportunities whilst keeping abreast of new developments and technology within the specialist field. Conduct research work in order to initiate process changes. Liaise with other sections; manage projects and technology to enhance operations.
- Services Efficiency: Assume responsibility for supporting production departments by adhering to production- and services maintenance schedules. Attend to breakdowns whilst maintaining set production targets. Ensure effective water and energy management, the optimal use of physical assets and available resources (both people and equipment). Assume responsibility
