Position Overview

Supervises the planning, implementation, interpretation and presentation of mineralogical study programs.
 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Data Integration: Combine geological, geotechnical, chemical, mineralogical, and metallurgical data to develop comprehensive ore body models.
  • Ore Characterization: Analyze ore variability to predict processing behavior and optimize extraction methods.
  • Mine Planning: Utilize geo-metallurgical models to inform mine design and scheduling, ensuring efficient resource extraction.
  • Process Optimization: Collaborate with metallurgists to adjust processing plants for different ore types, improving recovery rates and reducing costs.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with geology, mining, and processing departments to ensure cohesive and efficient operations.
  • Environmental Management: Assist in the management of tailings and waste, ensuring environmentally responsible practices.
  • Participates in development of geo-metallurgical strategies and identifies study targets with the aim of enhancing mineralogical understanding of mineral sand deposits.
  • Consistently apply Safety and health principles in all team interactions and take personal responsibility for the safety of self and others to ensure zero harm and elimination of fatalities.
  • Function as a role model and support a workplace culture where safety and health for the site are paramount.

The incumbent will also be responsible for but not limited to:

  • Critical Thinking and Decision Making: Understanding of the issues and processes related to the decision-making process; ability to analyze situations fully and accurately, synthesize information, and reach informed and productive decisions.
  • Data Gathering, Analysis & Reporting: Knowledge and effective utilization of tools, techniques, and processes for data gathering, analysis, and reporting in a particular department or division of a company.
  • Risk Management: Knowledge of processes, tools, and techniques for assessing and controlling an organization's exposure to risks of various kinds; ability to apply this knowledge appropriately to diverse situations.
  • Project Management: Ability to plan, organize, monitor, and control projects, ensuring efficient utilization of technical and administrative resources, to achieve project objectives.
  • Mining Industry Knowledge: Knowledge and understanding of industry developments, trends, and experiences related to exploration and mining methods.
  • Mining Technologies and Systems: Knowledge of technologies and applications used in exploration/mining and mineral sands processing and ability to utilize these in the optimization of processes.
  • Mine Planning: Knowledge and the associated ability to apply technical and mine planning knowledge to design programs that realize organizational requirements and objectives.
  • Mining Engineering: Knowledge of and ability to design, model, benchmark, and reconcile methodologies in consideration of the mining environment, including geological and geotechnical factors, to deliver the safest and most cost-effective exploitation methodologies of in-ground minerals.
  • Surveying Methods: Knowledge of the various survey methods used for gathering samples and data and ability to select the correct methods and analyses, evaluate and interpret results to support specific mine planning, management, and operational needs.

Qualifications & Experience
  • Honours Degree in Geology/Earth Sciences, BSC. Ing/Eng (4 year degree in Metallurgy) minimum, MSc or Ming/Eng advantageous.
  • Work experience either in industry or research capacity 7-10 years at least.
  • Proven experience in geo-metallurgy or a related role.
  • Driver’s License (Mandatory).
