Position Title

Senior Mechanical Project Engineer (Fixed Term – Two years)


Location

Mine Site (Brand se Baai)
 

Position Overview

This position will take full responsibility of managing the Mechanical design of two large projects that are currently in Pre-feasibility study (PFS) phases. On the successful completion of the PFS phase, these projects will proceed, subject to approval, to the Feasibility study and Detailed Design phases.
On completion of the Detailed Design phases this position will play an active role in the Execution phases of these multiyear large capital projects.


Primary Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of the Mechanical Engineering design on a large project
  • Ensuring Health and Safety standards are incorporated into the design
  • Ensure compliance to the 2014 construction regulations for all on site contractors
  • Liaise with the design contractors to ensure technical integrity
  • The compiling of the scope of work for Mechanical work
  • Liaise with the Construction Manager to ensure mechanical work integrity and adherence to specifications and required QA checks and verification
  • Technical problem solving during the study, design and construction phases
  • Progress measurements / feedback
  • Reports to the Project Manager


Qualifications & Experience

  • Mechanical B Eng, BSc (Eng) or B Tech degree, NQF Level 7
  • Computer literate – MS Office and MS Projects
  • Code B driver’s license
  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience in Mechanical Engineering design and construction on large capital projects in a heavy industry or mining environment
  • A Project Management qualification will be advantageous
  • Government Certificate of Competency (Mining or Factories) will be advantageous


Knowledge & Skills

  • Good knowledge of project management processes.
  • Previous construction management experience.
  • Sound knowledge of feasibility studies, detailed design, construction and commissioning workflows
